There is a lot of power in what Twitter has created… Still friends and family don’t get the true power of what Twitter is. Anyway here are a few reasons you should be using Twitter:

First there are over 1 billion tweets so we can get involved by using the search engine from twitter. Finding out about any topic of your choice.

There is something called tweetgrid, you can have up to 9 search terms searches going at a time to see what is happening on different topics.

Also to market yourself make sure to get a good background for your Twitter profile for marketing yourself.

There is a free software tweet product called twitterfeed, it auto creates tweets for you from your blog page automajically.

Often when you will be directing people with a url, you will be using a URL shortner, there is something called twurl by tweetburner.com, twurl’ing allows you to track links that you share on Twitter. This will tell tell you stats on a per click basis, a handy tool…It integrates into an number of twitter clients, one client being tweetdeck.

Tweetdeck is an adobe air application available for mac & pc. I recommend tweetdeck, it is really great to have at meetups and conferences, you can see realtime everything that is going on and what people are thinking and talking about and you can interact real time, a great networking tool overall. One thing to note about tweetdeck is that it has an option to tweet at certain times….this is critical if you want people to notice and follow you , you seem active even though you might be sleeping and have queued up a number of tweets!

About 12 minutes into Tekzilla Revision3 show episode 83 Twitter’s CEO Evan Williams talks about Twitter a bit. I very interesting interview! Fast forward about 12 minutes into the show.

Evan Williams handle is @ev.

Also an essential tool for anyone on the road if you have an iPhone is Tweetie, it is the best twitter app I have seen for Twitter.

This is just a fun visual aid for twitter, there are many like it: twittermap.tv.

Another video from Evan:
